Iran's Satellite

The United States has been a bit worried, thinking that Iran might use the same technology for missiles with nuclear capabilities. But Iran says they have no plans to make nuclear weapons and that their rocket launches are only for civilian or defense reasons.

IRNA reported that they used the Qoqam 100 satellite carrier from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to launch the Soraya satellite. This is the first time Iran has put a satellite in orbits higher than 500 kilometers (310 miles).

Issa Jazayeri, Iran’s Communications Minister, shared that the 50-kilogram satellite is now in an orbit 750 kilometers above Earth.

The Qoqam 100 rocket, developed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, is pretty cool – it’s a three-stage solid-fuel satellite launcher, the first of its kind for Iran.

Although Iran had some trouble with satellite launches before, they did well in April 2020 when they launched their first military satellite, the Noor-1.
